Goal-directed fluid therapy guided by stroke volume variation and cerebral oximetry during cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC: a case report

Abstract

Cytoreduction with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a complex surgical procedure used in the treatment of peritoneal tumors, improving patient prognosis. It involves significant anesthetic challenges such as volume loss, thermal fluctuations, and the risk of metabolic complications. Fluid replacement must be individualized and guided by hemodynamic parameters such as stroke volume variation (SVV) and urine output. Monitoring with FloTrac and NIRS allows continuous assessment of fluid responsiveness and cerebral perfusion. Thermal oscillation requires active warming and cooling measures. Altogether, these precautions promote greater safety during the procedure and contribute to better patient outcomes.
